Lord and Lady Strutbury lived all their married lives in the mansion until someone violently ended his life at 85 by pushing him off his own balcony. He was a pompous man who made several enemies in his little village in of Hopkinsville. His children and his grandchildren were never very close to him and he disagreed with many of his servants too. So why was he killed in such a impulsive manner? Play characters are described below
Charlie Smock -The gardener of the Mansion has worked for the Strutbury's some 50 odd years. Although he could retire at this age he has much respect and dedication to the Strutbury's. He has never had a family, giving his whole life to maintaining the mansion grounds. He lives in a shed away from the mansion and Lord Strutbury has never shown him much kindness. The murder meal will be his first time sat around the Strutbury's dinner table. But Charlie hides many secrets which have been nagging him for all these years
Lady Strutbury (The Wife) She is 81 years old, very frail and losing touch with the world outside the mansion, but it doesn't stop her from behaving like a real lady with exquisite manners. She doesn't suffer fools gladly and she doesn't like people who make a show of themselves. You won't find her shedding a tear over her husbands death. She found him a blithering old fool that spent his life in one wing of the house while she did in the other. She'll boss people around, and expect to be treated like royalty. She won't know much about the modern world, (she's only seen a TV once)
Victoria Strutbury (spoilt granddaughter) She's 29 years old and an infamous "it" girl. By that, she's famous just for being from the aristocracy and she's never had a job. She'll turn up to the opening of an envelope trying to mingle with the stars. She's obsessed with trying to be famous and getting her face in the papers. She's not close to her family. Her grandparents poke their nose into her public lifestyle, and often pester her on about her drug habit. But she needs her drugs, she says, life is tough staying up all night drinking champagne at premiers and then getting up in the mornings for a facial. The rest of the world will never understand.
Dell Ingemells – the village vicar. In his early 40's, the reverend at Hopkinsville All Saints Church in the Village. He has known the Strutbury's for 6 years as they regularly attend his church. They generously gave large donations to the church which he will greatly miss now the Lord has passed away. He comes across as a stable man full of faith and sinless but this couldn't be further from the truth. This is the longest time Dell has managed to secure a job in one parish, the reason will be revealed in this murder mystery.
Seb Raider (grandson)He's in his late 20's and he works in the city as a stock broker and made his first million by 25. He's led a fun packed life of beautiful women, champagne, designer suits, drugs and expensive cars. But this came at a price, he likes to tell people he had to work "bloody hard". He's very shallow and doesn't like being in the company of simple villagers. He'll sum people up by the clothes they wear and the size of their mobile phones. As a result of his grandfathers death he has now been made an Earl and could be entitled to a huge fortune.
Hilary Strutbury (recluse daughter) She is in her early 40s. She's never moved out of the mansion and has always lived with her elderly parents. She adores her parents despite the fact they bullied her for years and treated her like one of their many servants. She's never had a social life and is painfully shy. She's lived a very sheltered life, hidden in books. She works as a librarian in the village and she tries not to have much to do with the public. The outside world scares her, its full of sin. She once considered to be a nun but a huge secret about herself held her back.
Kathy Mart :She's in her 30s-40s and has worked as a cook at the Mansion for 10 years. She lives in the village and is often responsible for all the gossip that gets around about the Strutbury's. She knows a lot about the going's on in the manor and loves to lap up any new news. She's never had her own family and perhaps her loneliness has a lot to do with her gossip. She is known for totally over-reacting and making situations so much worse than they are. However, her ear-wigging could bring vital clue's to the evening's enquiries.
