Brown Bag Lunch Program
Maggie Selvidge will present a program on "Poetry & Art of Roger"...her late husband. Roger Selvidge was blessed with many artistic talents...painter, poet, writer, musician, and photographer. His art, as well as his teaching career, touched many lives in a very positive way. Roger was mainly a self-taught artist. Water color painting and black and white photography were his favorite mediums. His subjects often featured the interplay of light and shadow. He especially liked to illustrate light coming through a door or a window. Nostalgia, such as family memorabilia, old churches, barns and old buildings, were often the subject matter of his art. Roger was often inspired by his travels, especially to the Southwest. The history of the Shakers in Kentucky fascinated him, and he spent much time photographing the Shaker Villages at Pleasant Hill and South Union. Roger loved literature and taught high school English for 29 years, retiring in 1997 from Hopkinsville High School. He was a gifted saxophone player and was passionate about jazz music. He organized the local jazz band, "Trillium" in autumn 1999. He died in 2000. Maggie will share some of Roger's works and many anecdotes. Don't miss her program.
